Last Friday, STCP presented its first 100% electric midi buses. This €3 million investment, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, will strengthen operations in the eastern part of the city of Porto.

Starting in April, the new buses will enter circulation, marking a significant step in modernizing the fleet and improving the urban mobility experience in Greater Porto. These vehicles will replace the current "mini" fleet, ensuring a more comfortable and sustainable solution.

The new vehicles will operate mainly on line ZC (Estádio do Dragão – Areias), in Campanhã, but are prepared to reinforce other lines whose geographical characteristics and demand levels allow it.

Inclusive and Sustainable Mobility

With greater capacity and comfort, the new buses can carry approximately 19 seated passengers, 30 standing, and have a dedicated space for people with reduced mobility or strollers. This capacity represents a significant increase compared to the previous "mini" buses, which carried up to 18 passengers in total.

For the Chairman of the Board of Directors of STCP, Luís Osório, this investment reflects the social impact that the operation will have: “The bus is often the only mobility solution for those who need it most. We are not just talking about an acquisition, but about a response to narrower streets, to places where buses do not reach with the same efficiency, a response to the real needs of the cities where we operate.”

During a trial trip conducted with passengers residing and working in Campanhã, the feedback was unanimous, highlighting the improved quality of the ride, especially on uneven surfaces, the comfort of the vehicles, and the increased capacity inside the bus.
With these buses entering service, the STCP fleet now has 96 fully electric vehicles, meaning that approximately 20% of operations are now carried out by emission-free means.

This renewal is part of the company's decarbonization strategy, reinforcing its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and building more sustainable cities.
