Operation Name
Decarbonization of STCP's operations

Operation Description
The operation's overall objective is to renew STCP's fleet, replacing 188 end-of-life vehicles with clean vehicles, which will enable it to provide a more efficient public service, both environmentally and economically, supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Operation Objectives
The overall objective of the operation is to renew STCP's fleet, which will enable it to provide a more efficient public service, both environmentally and economically, supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.
This operation will also enable STCP to help Portugal achieve its energy efficiency goals. According to the National Energy Policy (PNAER), primary energy consumption must be reduced by 25%, gross final consumption by 31%, and 10% of the energy used in transportation must come from renewable sources. This operation significantly contributes to increasing the percentage of energy used in transportation from renewable sources.
The operation has the following specific objectives:

  • Acquire new vehicles (a total of 188), of the European category M3, class I, powered by natural gas or electricity, more energy efficient, in terms of

economic and with lower levels of pollutant emissions (with emissions lower than each of the applicable maximum limits, set in the Euro VI Standard, of at least 15%);

  • Remove from circulation 188 end-of-life vehicles, which do not meet the most appropriate conditions to provide the public service to which STCP is obliged;
  • Implement new, more energy-efficient gas stations and install suitable charging stations for electric vehicles;
  • Promote the operation, raising awareness among users and the general public about the benefits of using public transport in urban areas, in

particularly cleaner vehicles (i.e. with lower pollutant emissions and lower energy consumption).
